OBD Codes
P334AP334BTurbo
Typical layout and location for the Turbo assembly.
Symptoms
- EPC (Electronic Power Control) light illuminated
- Loss of turbo boost (car feels very slow)
- EML light with P334A or P334B codes
- Actuator rod stuck fast when checked manually
Root Cause
The linkage from the actuator to the turbo wastegate seizes due to heat and corrosion. The electric motor inside the actuator then burns itself out trying to move the seized linkage.
How To Fix
- The actuator can sometimes be replaced separately from the turbo.
- VAG sells an actuator repair kit.
- VCDS is required to adapt/calibrate the new actuator voltages to the ECU.
- If the wastegate flap inside the turbo is damaged, a full turbo is needed.
- Actuator fix cost: £250-400.

Other Faults on This Variant
Timing Chain Stretch and Rattle
SevereThe early EA111 1.2 TSI engines suffer from significant timing chain stretch, causing an aggressive cold start rattle and potential engine failure.
Air Conditioning Condenser Leak (Stone Damage)
MinorThe air conditioning condenser is mounted at the very front of the cooling pack, making it highly susceptible to stone damage from the road, leading to refrigerant loss.
Front Anti-Roll Bar Drop Link Wear
MinorThe front anti-roll bar drop links wear out on heavily potholed UK roads, causing an annoying knocking sound at low speeds.
