Symptoms

  • Droning or humming noise that increases with speed
  • Noise changes when steering left or right
  • Vibration through steering wheel
  • Noise worse on one side — load transfers when cornering

Root Cause

The Corsa D uses pressed-in sealed bearing units. They wear normally with mileage and are accelerated by kerbing, potholes and misaligned tracking. The front bearings take additional load when braking.

How To Fix

  1. Jack the suspect wheel and check for play at 12 and 6 o'clock
  2. Replacement requires a hydraulic press to remove and install bearing
  3. Use quality brands: FAG, SKF or Timken — not cheap pattern bearings
  4. Cost: £120-220 per side fitted at indie
