Symptoms

  • Oil leak from turbo area (dripping on exhaust)
  • Blue smoke on startup
  • Turbo whine increasing in pitch
  • Loss of power over time
  • Oil consumption increasing

Root Cause

The banjo-bolt oil feed fitting at the top of the turbocharger can crack from vibration. Oil then leaks onto the hot exhaust manifold. Separately, sludge can block the feed pipe and starve the bearings.

How To Fix

  1. Inspect oil feed banjo fitting and pipe for cracks or leaks
  2. Replace feed pipe if cracked — OEM or braided steel aftermarket
  3. If bearings already worn: turbo replacement (remanufactured £300-600)
  4. Always change oil and filter when replacing turbo
  5. Fitted: £500-900
